Performance-based objectives
  • Discuss the general features and the system requirements of Windows 2000. Discuss the Active Directory at an introductory level, and install Windows 2000 Server into a workgroup.
  • Use the Microsoft Management console to examine preconfigured consoles and create custom consoles, use the Control Panel and Registry Editor to modify system settings, and install new devices and create hardware profiles by using the Device Manager.
  • Work with basic disk storage partitions, upgrade their hard disks to dynamic disk storage, and work with volumes.
  • Create local users and groups.
  • Use NTFS permissions to secure network resources and determine effective permissions.
  • Enable and manage file compression and encryption, defragment files, backup and restore files, and schedule regularly occurring backups.
  • Install and manage networking components, use command-line network utilities to manage network services, install and manually configure TCP/IP, and configure DNS clients.
  • Promote a standalone server to an Active Directory domain controller; and create and manage user and group accounts in a domain environment.
  • Create and test a group policy to enable users to log on locally, modify and administer user accounts, and customize your local user profile.
  • Create, edit, and locate objects in the directory, and configure security features of the Active Directory to control access to objects and to delegate authority over portions of the directory hierarchy.
  • Create and publish a share in the directory, enable and set disk quotas, and configure and use the Distributed File System.
  • Manage and administer network printers.
  • Audit and monitor your system using Event Viewer and Performance Monitor.
  • Create and manage a domain tree.
